Carolyn Monastra home portfolios info contact The Witness Tree is a series of photographs focusing on landscapes that are being affected by climate change. I plan to spend the next year documenting sites around the world that are both currently affected. I am targeting locations that represent a diversity of natural environments and cultures to demonstrate that this is indeed a global epidemic. From the melting Arctic ice cap to wild fires in Australia, I have selected places that will represent how geographically widespread the climate crisis is.

This project was initially inspired by an artists residency I did in Iceland in 2009. Recently I began photographing sites near my home on the East Coast. Over the summer I will be photographing locations in the Midwest, West Coast and Southeast. In the fall I will begin traveling to sites abroad. For more information, see my list of targets sites (2 pages forward) as well as my Info page that contains links to websites about climate change. If you are interested in supporting this project the next page has information about how you can help with my fundraising efforts.

I will be adding more pictures as time does on. I also plan to start a blog this summer so please check back for updates on images and information.
